Tide Monitoring System

Our team at SAPHI developed a tide monitoring system for a major port in Australia to inform incoming and outgoing cargo ships of the fluctuating tide levels to ensure safe passage into and out of the port

TIde monitoring system

Who Was Our Client

SAPHI’s client was a major port in Australia that is responsible for over 100 billion tons of cargo and contributing over 100 billion in gross state product each year

What Was The Problem?

Our client required a new tide monitoring system that leveraged the existing communication protocol for more efficient communication between the port and vessels.

What Was The Solution?

Our team at SAPHI developed a tide monitoring system to collect and transmit tide levels to all incoming and outcoming ships. The system utilised a tide sensor to record water levels before sending the data to a cloud database before being queried using a closed API and converting the data into the correct format for communication to the vessels’ radio.

What Were The Outcomes?

  • Improved communications between port and vessels
  • Digitalisation of data
  • Modernisation of communication protocols

What Skills Did SAPHI Use To Implement The Solution?

The tech stack and experience required for the AI imaging system included a broad range of skills, including:

  • API development for querying data
  • FTP integration to store tide data
  • RS232 for communicating the data to vessels
  • Systems integration to tie together all hardware and software components of the system
  • CLI app for querying historic tide data and generating CSV files

What Support Did SAPHI Offer After Completion?

SAPHI provides customised packages to support the full system development life cycle and implementation of upgrades to support the evolving needs of our clients and their customers.
