Who Was Our Client?

Cross-Trace is an investor-backed UK startup that has contracted SAPHI to develop a portable contact tracing device to trace users’ interactions with people found to be suffering from COVID.  critical comms markets.

What Was The Problem?

Cross-Trace had the vision to advance the development of contract tracing technology by developing a portable contact tracing device that would accurately trace users proximity to covid positive individuals down to an accuracy of 1m<.

The founders at Cross-trace reached out to our team at SAPHI to as they didn’t have the internal technical expertise to convert their vision into reality.

The Cross-trace team leveraged our expertise in end-to-end product development and prototyping to get the system off the whiteboard and into users’ hands.

What Was The Solution?

SAPHI designed and developed a complete end-to-end solution, combining hardware & software, that would alert end-users when they were within close proximity to COVID infected individuals.

Our team developed a wearable contact tracing device that tracks peoples’ interactions with COVID via GPS denied location tracking technology. This ensures our system will work on all corners of the globe, regardless of GPS accessibility.

Our team paired this wearable device with an intuitive, custom-built mobile app that immediately notifies users of their interactions with individuals found to be suffering from COVID.

What Were The Outcomes?

  • Days of saved time through automatic contact tracing.
  • Reduced reliance on citizens to check in and out of locations through real-time notifications.
  • Accuracy of proximity detection down from 2m to 10cm.

What Skills Did SAPHI Use To Implement The Solution?

SAPHI leveraged its expertise in both hardware and software to develop this contact tracing technology, including:

  • C/C++ for device code
  • NodeJS for syncing data to the net
  • ARM Linux setup and configuration
  • Google Cloud (Firebase) backend for database management
  • Device electrical setup specification

For all projects, SAPHI provides 12 months of free on-going support and maintenance for all in-scope items to reduce risk for clients and ensure a smooth transition of asset ownership.
